Unfinished Business Sold, As Is
When we think about auctions, we often picture items sold without guarantees—what you see is what you get. There are no promises or warranties; it is just a transaction in which the buyer takes full responsibility for the item's condition.
This is precisely where Hosea finds himself when he purchases Gomer. She was auctioned off and sold as-is without guaranteeing change or transformation. Yet, he chose to redeem her, just as God has chosen to redeem us.
Purchased at a Price
The Bible tells us that we were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20): the precious blood of Jesus Christ. He didn’t wait for us to clean ourselves up, become worthy, or prove our value. He took us just as we were—flawed, broken, and needing grace.
When Christ paid for our redemption, He knew exactly what He was getting. He saw our past, failures, and imperfections and still chose us. He didn’t demand a warranty of future perfection; instead, He promised transformation.
From Death to Life
Left to ourselves, we were bagged and tagged—marked for death, unfit to live, yet not ready to die. Our destiny was destruction, but Jesus changed our course. As John 10:10 says, He came to give us life and life more abundantly. He took the weight of our sin and exchanged it for eternal hope.
The Choice to Accept Redemption
Just like an item at an auction cannot redeem itself, we couldn’t save ourselves. Christ intervened, stepping in to claim us when we were lost. Now, it’s our turn to accept the offer of His grace and step into the new life He has prepared for us.
Are you still carrying the baggage of your past? Still living as if you haven’t been redeemed? It’s time to embrace what Christ has done and walk in the freedom He has given you. You were bought at a price—now live as someone who has been set free. Whom the Son has set free is free indeed.
