Addiction: Sickness or Weakness
“Is addiction a weakness or a sickness?”
My response to this question is, “Jesus.”
I know it doesn’t directly answer the question, but it was the best answer I had.
Here is how I came to this response.
Paul was afflicted with a thorn in his flesh which he requested three times that the Lord would remove. “But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
The thorn can be characterized as a sickness or a weakness, but Jesus responded with, “I am Enough”.
You might be tormented with an addiction. Whether it be a sickness or a weakness, “By His stripes [you] are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
The New Living Translation is my favorite, “He was whipped so we could be healed.”
Every stripe and every wound Jesus suffered was for you and me to experience total healing and deliverance from a weakness or a sickness.
The result of either is emotional and mental bondage, but my friend I am here to tell you that there is no bondage in Christ, your freedom has been purchased.
You have been redeemed. Jesus paid it all. PERIODT!!!
Our God is a chain breaker, a promise keeper and a healer. There is absolutely nothing to hard for Him.
He can do anything but fail. “Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37, MSG).
So, it doesn’t matter if your addiction is a weakness or a sickness, Jesus is the answer.
